We woke up at 11.30am because we did not hear the alarm. We went to see Linda at her workplace close by at 12.30pm
and said her bye. We hit the road at 2pm. I drove under the rain and stopped around 6pm for a car check – I lost more than 2L of water. We decided to camp in the Myall Lakes national park close
to Tea Garden, just before dawn. We finished to settle down at 9pm and enjoyed a good fire until 1am. We saw a dingo as well as wild turkeys and many transparent spiders.

We woke up at 1pm, Linda was still asleep (she woke up at 4pm actually). We did not do much, just took it
easy, the weather conditions being so bad. We watched TV and prepared the dinner for them. We went to bed late because Teri wanted to play karaoke with us.

We woke up at 11am, instead of 9am. It was raining outside, we did not have much incentives to go out. I did not
have any back pain anymore in Linda's bed – that was miraculous. It was very generous to give us her bed: it was a well-sized antique bed with a thick mattress. Linda is living with her sister,
her niece and her cat in a 5 bedrooms house with two lounges and bathrooms – the house is quite spacious. We left for Sydney by train at 3pm, arrived at 4.20pm, very tired for me. We walked from
Central to the botanic garden, through the Hyde park and came back to a block close to Central to meet Nozomi's friend. We had St Valentine's day in a good Japanese restaurant. We went to Darling
Harbour first, walked to the Rocks (oldest district of Sydney) and went to Kings Cross (old Red light district) which is now a hype / club street. We had a drink and a bit food and then left at
12.30pm (running under the rain) to get the train at 1am, just on time. Linda picked us up at the Campbell station at 2.30am. We bought her a geisha doll to thank her because she really likes the
movie “memoirs of a geisha”.

We woke up at 11am, headed off at 2pm for Sydney (Canberra originally). We found Linda Hemmert's place (my
parcel's friend having the same name as me :)) quite easily, arriving at 8pm. They invited us to eat, then we spoke a bit. They went to bed at 11pm, and us at 2am.

We woke up at 1pm and left at 4pm for the Yarrangobily caves. We stopped on the way to see an abandoned village.
The caves were numerous, in the mountains, over a beautiful view: many hills welcoming a small river in the middle. One cave had an opening in its ceiling. Then we walked down to the river and
came back to the car in order to head off to Australia's highest town, Tumut. We came back to the camp and had a fire.

We left at 3pm and we arrived at 9pm at the entry of the snowy mountains, close to a lake at a free camp site. On
the way we drove through a thick smoke, due to the bush fires (black Saturday few days ealrier), hiding the surrounding mountains. We were a bit worried about camping in the middle of nowhere, be
woken up and trapped by a bushfire.

Vu que nous avons beaucoup d'espace dans le jardin nous avons commencé à faire un jardin accueillant pour
l'instant des tomates, des petits pois, du persil, des épinards et de la menthe. Vu le soleil je pense que l'on ne devrait pas avoir trop de problème si ce n'est la
sécheresse...

Mes collocataires m'appellent car ils entendaient un bruit étrange en face de leur chambre. Je prends ma torche dans la voiture et nous cherchons une dizaine de minutes pour trouver la bête :)!

Nozomi a acheté un piano d'occasion pour $200 après négotiation. Lorsque l'accordeur est venu il lui a fait savoir que le piano avait plus d'un siècle!

Nozomi bought a piano for $200. The piano tuner told her that the piano was more than 100 years old. It sounds good though. Really enjoy taking a nap and listening
to her on the same time :).

A la fin d'une soirée avec mes collocataires japonais, après de nombreux verres et un film de Michael Moore, je les ai interrogés sur
différents points concernant leur pays.
Tout d'abord nous avons abordé le sujet de leur sécurité sociale, qui apparement n'est pas aussi social que ce que j'avais présumé.
Ils ont un système privé et publique, le publique étant aussi payant et ne couvrant aucun frais d'hospitalisation. Pour donner un exemple, mon collocataire a été à l'hôspital pour une durée de 6
jours et a du payer $2000.
Ensuite nous avons parlé de leur système d'éducation qui est payant, même pour les formations professionalisantes en dessous du
baccalauréat. La moyenne est de $15,000/an en moyenne.
Après cela nous avons parlé de géographie et avons discuté d'Hiroshima et Nagasaki qui sont toujours encore commémorés dans les
écoles. Apparemment les américains avaient l'intention de bombarder Tokyo, mais du fait de conditions météorologiques ils ont réorienté leur cible sur Hiroshima qui produisait de l'armement.
D'après leur dires, il y a encore de la discrimination auprès des japonais originaires des deux villes bombardés car même de nos jours les descendants ont des malformations génétiques
étranges les empêchant de parler, etc.
Ils ont aussi évoqué leur peur quant à la proximité de la Corée du nord qu'ils ont envahis auparavant, la menace étant d'autant plus
grande que les américains leur ont imposés des bases militaires stratégiques permettant d'avoir le contrôle sur l'Asie de l'est, le Vietnam et la Corée du nord en particulier, ces pays étant
communistes. En 1971 la Corée du Nord a kidnappé une trentaine de japonais sur les côtes est du Japon, le Japon ayant envoyé des espions en Corée du Nord. Le publique n'a jamais été au courant de
quelque revendiquation de la part de la Corée du nord et n'a appris les faits que bien plus tard. En 2003, la Corée du Nord a envoyé les os de cinq de ces japonais kidnappés. Après analyse
d'ADN il s'est révélé qu'il ne s'agissait pas d'eux!
Autre point qui m'a été révélé par mon ex-collocataire coréen. Le gouvernement japonais ne renie pas leurs actes de violence et
torture envers les coréens et les chinois, mais au contraire les honore. En effet, mes collocataires japonais m'ont confirmé le fait que leur premier ministre va prier devant les caméras le dieu
de l'armée aux dates de fin de guerre avec la Chine et la Corée ainsi que la 2e guerre mondiale. La Chine et la Corée protestent contre ce fait outragieux.

During an evening with my Japanese house mates, and after many drinks and watching a movie from Michael
Moore, I asked some questions regarding to their country.
Firstly we discussed about their healthcare system, which is not as good as I expected. They have a
private and public systems, the public being also paid and does not cover any hospital fee. For instance, my house mate went to hospital for a week and needed to pay $2,000.
Then we spoke about their education system which is not free too. The average is around
$15,000.
After that we discussed about geography and went through the topics of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
which is still celebrated in their schools. Apparently Americans intended to bomb Tokyo, but because of bad meteorological conditions they reached their second target which was Hiroshima because
there was a weapon production there. As they told me, there is still nowadays some kind of discrimination with the people of those cities who can't marry with people of other cities because they
have genetic diseases leading them to lose their speech, etc.
Moreover, they evoked their fear regarding to North Korea which they invaded in the past, the threat
being even greater with the US having their bases in Japan in order to control East Asia, in particular Vietnam and North Korea, these countries being communists. In 1971, North Korea kidnapped
30 Japanese people on the East coast of Japan because Japan sent spies in North Korea. The public was never aware about any revendication and they were just thinking that those people were
missing. In 2003 North Korea sent the bones of five missing people, but after Dna examination Japan realized that they were belonging to other people!
Finally, I spoke about a controversy revealed by my ex-house mate. The Japanese government does not
apologize regarding to the violent acts toward China and Korea, but in opposite it honors it! Indeed, my Japanese house mate told me that each year their prime minister preys in public the god of
army at the day of the end of the world war 2 and the date they went to war with Korea and China. China and Korea protest against this act which is politically incorrect!
